What is Dye Sublimation?

Dye sublimation is a printing technique where ink is infused into a special coating on the aluminum panel via the application of heat and pressure. When the panels are heated, the dye-sub inks are converted from a solid state into a gaseous state. As a gas, the inks attach to the coating. After the sublimation process is completed, the inks return to a solid state and attach to the aluminum panel. Therefore the ink is not on the panel but rather forms a permanent bond with the aluminum panel.
